70 years of Independence Day

Achievements

  • We are the only nation in the world which gave every adult the right to vote from its first day. In the US, the world’s second largest democracy this right was given more than 150 years after their independence.
  • We have the most number of languages spoken in any one nation; 29 languages are spoken in India, by more than one million people each. Canada almost broke up into two in 1960s because of tension between English and French.
  • Largest number of elected women (panchayats, etc.)
  • Developed nuclear technology indigenously under world boycott and lowest cost producer of nuclear energy ($ 1700 per kilowatt).
  • World’s largest producer of two-wheelers and the lowest cost car (Nano).
  • Largest milk producer (100m tones).
  • Largest importer of gold (700 tones) and 90 per cent of all diamonds polished and processed here.
  • World’s third largest railway network.
  • Highest No. of Test and ODI centuries and winner of cricket World Cup twice.
  • Largest number of independently owned newspapers.
  • Biggest user of the “missed call” and best in “jugaad”

Failures

  • We failed to control our population (1.324 billion).
  • Deserving politicians not reaching deserved positions,
  • Patriotism! I think we lost our patriotism. We became too self-obsessed with our self, all we want is power and money. We all know what our leader did or still doing. They pushed the country into corruption so deep that pulling it back is so difficult.
  • India has worst reservation policy in the world.
  • Indian judiciary is one of the worst in the world.
  • Each year many farmers commit suicide in India.
  • Low women workforce rate.
  • ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ loses its meaning by these shameful incidents. (Rape)
  • Biggest failure was Commonwealth Game.
  • On the internal security front, approximately one in every six districts is Maoist-dominated that causes a massive internal security challenge. We are still struggling to bring peace to the states like Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and others.
  • The biggest loss besides the snapping of cultural and historical relations between siblings is the permanent state of war the two nations are in. The diversion of 10% of budget for armed forces by India ( it is even more by Pakistan ) could have been avoided and put to better use by both the nations who rate so low on every social and economic index.
